
PAPILLION, Neb. -- Ashlyn Coreas netted her first goal for the Bruins but it was not enough as the Bellevue University women's soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-1 loss to Briar Cliff University on Saturday afternoon.
Following the match, Bellevue honored five seniors – Claudia Gallegos, Ketlyn Rota, Britney Nolte, Morgan McIlnay, and Lauren Chetty – for their contributions to the program over their time at BU.
Bellevue wraps up the regular season with an 8-5-2 record while Briar Cliff improves to 6-8-3.
Briar Cliff struck first with Emily Moran finding the back of the net in the 36th minute for her eighth goal of the season. A Bruin foul gave the Chargers a free kick about 20 yards from goal that Moran hit high and tucked inside the back post to open the scoring.
Ashlyn Coreas equalized for Bellevue under two minutes later after Maju Serrano sent a ball into the box from 40 yards away. The cross bounced and Coreas volleyed home a chip for her first career goal, tying the game at 1-1.
The Bruins briefly appeared to take the lead early in the second half but Lauren Chetty's goal was disallowed as the officials deemed a Bruin attacker had fouled the goalkeeper in gaining possession of the ball.
Moments later, Briar Cliff found the go-ahead goal as the result of a corner kick. Manu Polachini sent an in-swinging cross that Tia Lisy headed home for her third goal of the year and a 2-1 lead for the Chargers.
The Bruins pressured Briar Cliff and showed urgency over the final 15 minutes but were unable to find the equalized.
Jamie Rowlands and Alessia Ricciardi totaled six saves in goal apiece for Briar Cliff and Bellevue, respectively.
Briar Cliff put five shots on goal to BU's four while the Bruins out-shot BCU 9-7 on the match and gained a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Bellevue travels to Lawrenceville, Ga. for the CAC Tournament which will be played Saturday, Nov. 9 through Wednesday, Nov. 13 on the campus of Georgia Gwinnett College. Seeding and match-ups will likely be announced next week.
