PAPILLION, Neb. -- Four different players found the back of the net for the Bellevue University women's soccer team as the Bruins posted a 4-2 victory over Viterbo University on Tuesday afternoon.
With the victory, BU improves to 8-4-2 on the year while Viterbo slides to 7-6-1 with the loss.
Lily Humes and Baylee Tex scored 2:38 apart to stake Bellevue to a 2-0 lead less than 20 minutes into the game.
Humes put the Bruins on the board in the 16th minute. Maju Serrano sent in a cross from the near side that Tex headed on to Humes to time up a header of her own on goal, beating Veerle Vriens for her third goal of the year.
Tex doubled the advantage in the 19th minute after being played in behind the defense when Tex beat Vriens with a low shot for her first collegiate strike.
Beverley Wemhoff added a third strike 11 seconds before the halftime whistly to extend the Bruin lead. Beth Cowd played a ground pass to the middle of the box that Wemhoff ran onto and blasted a one-time shot from eight yards for her second goal of the year.
Brooke Clements pulled one back for the V-Hawks in the 48th minute. A cross into the box skirted through Alessia Ricciardi's legs that Clements pounced on right at the goal line to slam home her sixth goal of the year.
The momentum was short-lived for Viterbo as Rota knocked in her third goal of the year. Serrano again registered the assist, with a perfectly-placed pass to Rota who was able to toe-poke the ball past Vriens to restore the three-goal advantage.
Kelcie Karweick bagged a late consolation strike with a 25-yard shot in the 86th minute to account for the final scoreline.
Despite being out-shot 11-9 and 6-4 on goal, Bellevue scored goals on each of their four shots on goal. The Bruins piled up a 4-1 advantage on corners. Ricciardi finished with three saves for Bellevue in the win.
The Bruins close out the regular season on Saturday at 3 p.m. when they welcome Briar Cliff University to Papillion Landing for a Senior Day matinee.
