BU rallies for 3-1 win at Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- Following a 10-day layoff, the Bellevue University women's soccer team rebounded from an early deficit to pick up a 3-1 victory against the University of Jamestown on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, BU improves to 7-2-2 on the season. Jamestown was denied their first back-to-back victories as the Jimmies fell to 4-6-0.

Bellevue had more chances in the early going putting each of their first three shots on goal while limiting the Jimmies to just one over the first 20 minutes of play.

Jamestown struck first in the 21st minute. Bre Oettle hit for UJ on the counter attack, carrying the ball down the far sideline before cutting into the box and ripping a shot up over Bruin keeper Alessia Ricciardi to the back post.

The score remained there until Lauren Chetty equalized for the Bruins in the 40th minute with her second strike of the season.

With the score tied at 1-1, the teams entered halftime. Bellevue and Jamestown each totaled five shots in the half with BU putting all of their efforts on goal and the Jimmies only shot on target coming via their goal.

Bellevue began the second half on the front foot before taking the lead in the 52nd minute. After BU won a 50-50 ball with Jimmie goalkeeper Isa Garcia an oncoming Maju Serrano ran onto a pass and unleashed a first touch shot from just inside the 18 for a 2-1 Bruin advantage.

The 58th minute saw Mia Hurt double the Bellevue lead with a volley over the head of Garcia. Claudia Gallegos played a free kick out of the back as Hurt snuck in behind the defense and chipped a volley into the back of the net.

The Bruins finished with a 10-6 advantage in shots and 9-2 in shots on goal while Jamestown gained three corners to BU's one.

Garcia totaled three saves in net for Jamestown and Ricciardi finished with one for Bellevue.

The Bruins return to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 9 when they welcome No. 11 Columbia College to Papillion Landing for a 2 p.m. kick-off.
