
SEWARD, Neb. -- Sami Reding staked the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a lead early in the second half but a 71st minute equalizer saw Concordia University salvage a 1-1 draw on Wednesday evening.
Bellevue remains unbeaten, moving to 4-0-1 on the year while Concordia sees their record move to 1-1-1.
Maju Serrano had a scoring chance for Bellevue with a 15th minute free kick from 35 yards our but her shot curled wide.
Adi Kasel intercepted a CUNE pass in the 25th minute and carried the ball in though her centering pass was booted away by a Bulldog defender.
At the other end, Concordia had their best look of the first half but Alessia Ricciardi saved Sierra Springer's low shot to keep the game scoreless.
Lauren Chetty found herself one-on-one with CUNE keeper Angela Banks in the final 10 minutes of the first half. She carried the ball deep into the box but shot tailed wide of goal.
The game remained scoreless into halftime with BU holding a 4-3 lead in shots (2-1 on goal) and collecting the lone corner. The Bruins committed five first half fouls to two for Concordia.
The Bruins had a look at goal early in the second half off a corner kick. Serrano sent an inswinger into the box for Claudia Gallegos but her header missed above the crossbar.
Sami Reding put the Bruins ahead in the 48th minute with a long-range shot. It was her third goal of the season. Ketlyn Rota found Reding with a pass as Reding turned, took a dribble, and ripped a shot from 25 yards out for a 1-0 BU advantage.
Around the hour mark, with Reding looking for a second goal she worked a give-and-go to slip behind a defender but a left-footed shot sailed over the bar.
Concordia equalized in the 71st minute as Savannah Andrews played Kierstynn Garner who found herself inside the penalty area before sliding a low shot inside the far post for her fifth goal of the year.
Emma Madej won a free kick for the Bruins at the edge of the 18-yard box, drawing a foul in the 76th minute. Serrano's shot was knocked down by the Bulldogs' wall before BU won a corner kick but CUNE was able to clear the danger.
Kasel stole possession from a Concordia defender in the 88th minute and carried the ball toward goal but her effort towards the far post carried wide and over the endline.
The Bruins doubled up Concordia in shots, 10-5, and shots on goal, 4-2. Bellevue also owned a 4-1 advantage in corners and committed nine fouls to CUNE's seven.
Ricciardi finished with one save for BU while Banks finished with three for the Bulldogs.
Bellevue returns home on Saturday, Sept. 7 when they welcome Morningside University to Papillion Landing for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
