LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Bellevue University sophomore Alessia Ricciardi (Milan, Italy) has been named the Continental Athletic Conference women's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
The goalkeeper has posted consecutive shutouts to open the season, stopping all three shots on goal she has faced. Dating back to Oct. 4 of last year, she has not allowed a goal over her last 493 minutes and 35 seconds of regular season play.
Ricciardi turned away a 69th minute shot in a 1-0 win in the season-opening win over Dakota Wesleyan. She followed it up with a pair of saves in another shutout win over Northwestern, including a diving save at the far post to keep the game scoreless in the 27th minute.
The Bruins currently sit at 2-0-0 on the year and host College of Saint Mary at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from Papillion Landing.
