Bruins rally from early hole

PAPILLION, Neb. -- After surrendering a goal in the opening minute, the Bellevue University women's soccer team rallied for a 2-1 victory over Dordt University on Wednesday evening at Papillion Landing.

Bellevue improves to 4-1-1 while Dordt slips to 2-2-0.

Karinna Tel scored in the game's first minute to stake Dordt to an early lead, ripping a shot from 23 yards under the crossbar.

Emma Madej scored her first of two goals in the 16th minute. Britney Nolte sent a cross into the box which Madej ran up on and slipped home from eight yards out for the equalizer.

The score remained tied into the halftime break though the scoresheet began to read in Bellevue's favor, with an edge of 7-3 in shots.

Madej secured her brace in the 51st minute. Ximena Jauregui intercepted a Dordt pass in a dangerous area and fed Madej who unleashed from a stride inside the 18 and beat the keeper up high for a 2-1 BU lead.

Chances were minimal for Dordt the rest of the way as the Defenders managed just one more shot on frame.

Bellevue finished the game with a 14-6 advantage in shots, 9-4 in shots on goal, and 7-3 in corner kicks.

Alessia Ricciardi made three saves in the win while Jenna Wright stopped seven shots for Dordt.

Bellevue hosts Northwestern College from Papillion Landing at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.
