Bruins pick up signature win over GGC

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Ximena Jauregui scored the game's lone goal and Jenn Amaro saved a season-high 12 shots to lead the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Georgia Gwinnett College on Sunday morning.

Records:

(RV) Bellevue: 10-2-1 (3-0-0 CAC)
Georgia Gwinnett: 3-5-6 (0-1-1 CAC)

BU 1, GGC 0

Georgia Gwinnett held an early lead in shots early in the game, putting four shots on goal in the first 17 minutes.

Momentum swung just ahead of the 20-minute mark following a GGC foul as Ximena Jauregui hit a well-struck free kick for her seventh goal of the season to put the Bruins ahead.

Bellevue kept that 1-0 lead into halftime. Not content to sit on their advantage, the Bruins continued to pressure with a few more shots.

A more defense-oriented second half saw the Grizzlies unleash 11 shots with seven finding their way on target.

Jenn Amaro was a difference maker in goal with a season-high 12 saves as BU was out-shot 16-7 and 12-4 on goal.

Matilda Waldt make a pair of saves in the loss for Georgia Gwinnett before being relieved at the half by Matilda Johansson who made an additional stop.

Bellevue registers their 10th win for the 22nd time in the program's 29-year history while the win over the Grizzlies is BU's first time in three tries.

The 12 saves by Amaro are the most by a Bruin keeper since Caitlin Stier recorded 15 saves against Missouri Valley back on Aug. 24, 2013.

Players of the Match:

Coach Tom White:

"It's a great win against a top, top team. The intensity from the get go was there and Xime scored a superb free kick. The back four were solid throughout and the energy on the bench saw us through."
