HASTINGS, Neb. -- Dulce Lopez scored in the 70th minute to break a scoreless tie and give Hastings College a 1-0 win over the Bellevue University women's soccer team on Saturday evening.
Records:
Hastings: 3-0-0
Bellevue: 3-1-0
Hastings 1, BU 0
In typical fashion in Bellevue-Hastings match-ups, this one was a tight affair that wasn't settled until late. This was the third-straight meeting between the two sides decided by just one goal.
A scoreless first half, in which neither team registered a shot on goal, saw just a combined three shots as the Broncos and Bruins were knotted at 0-0 at halftime.
Chances opened up in the second half with 12 combined shots, half of which found their way on frame, and all three of the game's corner kicks.
Dulce Lopez finally broke the deadlock with her first strike of the season.
The Bruins nearly equalized in the 77th minute but Britney Nolte's attempt rattled off the cross bar. A pair of BU shots on goal in the final six minutes were each saved by Sofie Jackson-Pedersen as Hastings hung on for the win.
Jenn Amaro finished with a pair of saves in goal for Bellevue.
Man of the Match:
Coach Tom White:
"It was a great game of football today and we just missed out on the result. We are gutted to not come back to Bellevue with something."
