FOREST CITY, Iowa -- A dominating first half effort and a pair of second half goals to break a 1-1 tie sparked the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Waldorf University on Wednesday evening at Bolstorff Field.

Records:

Bellevue: 6-8-0
Waldorf: 3-9-0

Bruins 3, Waldorf 1

With the wind at their backs, Bellevue controlled play throughout the first half in the opening 45 minutes and were rewarded for their efforts when Bruna Bielski opened the scoring in the game's 35th minute with the assist going to Sinai Bernal.

The Bruins out-shot the Warriors 10-1 (7-1 on goal) in the half and won all four corner kicks as they took that 1-0 advantage into the break.

Waldorf's lone chance of the first half came on a breakaway in the 40th minute but Sabrina Staufenbiel came off her line to make a sliding stop on Jadyn Nevaeh Ku'uleialoha Clark's shot.

The Warriors pulled level in the 55th minute as Sydney Boyd converted a penalty after the Bruins were whistled for a foul inside the box.

Maddy Vasquez pushed Bellevue back in front in the 69th minute from 25 yards out. Her shot from distance ticked off a defender but the trajectory remained on frame and beat the keeper to the far side.

Britney Nolte provided BU an insurance strike with under 10 minutes remaining after gaining possession of a Waldorf turnover. She took a touch before slotting the ball inside the near post for a 2-1 lead.

Staufenbiel finished the match with five saves to preserve the victory for the Bruins, who have now won three of their past four games.

Sara Rodriguez totaled 10 saves in goal for Waldorf in the loss.

Bellevue out-shot the Warriors 20-14 on the night (13-6 on goal) and piled up seven corners to Waldorf's five.

Coach Tom White:

"It was a solid performance tonight. I was happy with how we played in the second half and adjusted to the conditions."
