Wallingford delivers BU's OT winner to snap skid

SALINA, Kan. – Courtney Wallingford scored with 1:39 left in the second overtime period as the Bellevue University women's soccer team upended (RV) Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday evening at the Graves Family Sports Complex.

Records:

Bellevue: 4-7-0
(RV) Kansas Wesleyan: 3-4-0

Bruins 3, KWU 2 (2OT)

Courtney Wallingford followed up a clearance by scoring the game-winning goal in the 109th minute. After KWU keeper Daisy Bingham punched away the initial delivery, Wallingford pounced and slotted home the game-winner to snap a five-game winless streak for BU.

Following a scoreless, and largely uneventful, first half that featured just three shots Maddy Vasquez put Bellevue on top with her second goal of the season less than four minutes into the second half.

Two goals from the Coyotes' Kayla Deaver just 2:19 apart gave the home team a 2-1 advantage. Deaver scored in the 55th minute to equalize and again in the 58th to go up a goal.

With time winding down in a more active second half, Bruna Bielski scored her team-leading fourth goal with 6:59 to play to force overtime.

The first overtime featured just one shot from KWU's Tyler Goodwin but it sailed high.

The Coyotes recorded the first three shots of the second overtime period, missing wide on either side of the goal and having a third saved before Wallingford came through with the winner for the Bruins.

Sabrina Staufenbiel stopped seven shots in goal for the Bruins to ensure the victory.

Bingham finished with five saves for Kansas Wesleyan.

KWU out-shot Bellevue 13-10 on the night and racked up a 7-3 advantage in corners, while each team put nine shots on target.

Courtney Wallingford, captain:

"It was all about the team effort. Everyone was all in, I'm so proud of the ladies."
