Bruins battle but fall 1-0 at Midland

FREMONT, Neb. -- Midland University's Kisa Omerovic accounted for the only goal on Wednesday evening as the Bellevue University women's soccer team dropped their fifth-straight game, falling 1-0 to the Warriors.

Midland: 4-4-0

The first half saw a pretty even standard of play from both sides on looked destined to be scoreless into the break until Midland scored with 21 seconds remaining before halftime. Claudia Wilson sent a long cross from bench to Kisa Omerovic at the far edge of the 6-yard box. Omerovic jumped to meet the ball and headed back across goal past the diving Bruin keeper.

Bellevue saw their best chance to equalize come in the 63rd minute with some good counter-attacking play but Sinai Bernal's shot trickled wide of the net.

The Bruins later won a free kick in a dangerous area in the 70th minute, about 34 yards from goal, but Bruna Bielski saw her shot saved.

Midland doubled up the Bruins, 16-8, in shots while maintaining a slight 6-5 edge in shots on goal.

Both Sabrina Staufenbiel and Mackenzie Smith recorded five saves for their respective sides, with the latter posting her second shutout and the Warriors' third of the season.
