Defenders shut out Bruins, 3-0

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Katherine Kooiman scored twice to lead Dordt University to a 3-0 win over the Bellevue University women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon.

Records:

Bellevue: 3-4-0
Dordt: 5-1-0

Dordt 3, Bruins 0

Katherine Kooiman put Dordt on the board first with her 15th minute goal. She unleashed a shot from outside the 18 to the far side of the goal that stayed just below the crossbar for the early lead.

The game remained 1-0 throughout the first half, despite Dordt racking up a 10-3 advantage in shots and winning five corners to Bellevue's two.

Just over three minutes into the second half Kooiman doubled the Defender advantage with her second strike of the game, dribbling in behind the defense slipped a shot to the far side which, despite Sabrina Staufenbiel getting a touch to the ball, found its way into the net.

Dordt stretched their lead to 3-0 in the 78th minute as Sydney Hooyer played Avril Baccam in behind the defense from the near sideline. Baccam side-stepped the goalie and a defender to create a shooting lane and scored easily.

Staufenbiel totaled a season-high nine saves while Jenna Wright needed to make just three stops to preserve the shutout.

Dordt finished with a 17-7 advantage in shots, putting 13 on goal while BU put just three on frame.

Sinai Bernal accounted for two of Bellevue's shots on goal while Maddy Vasquez registered the other.

Coach Tom White:

"It's an out of character performance from us today. We were out-worked throughout the whole 90. Fair play to Dordt as the wanted it more today."
