Hastings defeats BU, 1-0

HASTINGS, Neb. -- Miley Prince scored the game's lone goal in the 32nd minute as the Bellevue University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Hastings College on Wednesday evening at Lloyd Wilson Field.

The first half saw just six combined shots, 4-2 in favor of the Bruins, as play was largely contained within the midfield.

Bellevue recorded the game's first three shots before Bronco substitute Miley Prine came off the bench to put the home side a goal ahead in the 32nd minute off a pass from Dakota Schubert.

Hastings nearly doubled their advantage in the 67th minute with Jacqueline Gilbert getting in on goal but Sabrina Staufenbiel kept the Bruins within striking distance with a sliding save.

Taylan Murphey, Courtney Wallingford, and Sinai Bernal each registered shots on goal for BU but Hastings' Sophie Jackson-Pedersen stopped all three shots on frame to earn the shutout.

Staufenbiel finished with a pair of saves for Bellevue, who held a 9-6 edge in shots and 5-0 advantage in corners while shots on goal were equal at three apiece.

"It was a great game of football. Tactically, we got it right; the effort and commitment were there. We had a good shout for a pen and hit the bar late on. I think a draw would have been a fair result. Well done to Hastings."
