BU rides early strike to convincing win

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Amber O'Reilly scored less than four minutes into the game to set the tone as the Bellevue University women's soccer team defeated Stephens College, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Bellevue East High School.

Records:

Bellevue: 2-1-0
Stephens: 0-2-0

Bellevue 3, Stephens 0

Amber O'Reilly opened the scoring, taking a long pass from Morgan McIlnay and chipping the oncoming keeper for a 1-0 BU lead just 3:55 into the game.

Oppressive heat slowed down the pace but Bellevue maintained the majority of the possession and attacking chances throughout the remainder of the half. The Bruins eventually went 2-0 up on a long-range strike from Daisy Ochoa-Rojas as her shot kissed the inside of the post and caromed into the back of the net.

BU took that lead, along with a 4-1 edge in shots, into the half.

Bruna Bielski put the game out of reach with her 64th minute strike. McIlnay sent a cross into the box that found Bielski open to settle and rip a shot nearside past the keeper.

From there, Bellevue saw out that game and finished with a 9-4 advantage in shots (6-1 on goal) and 4-2 edge in corners.

Sabrina Staufenbiel stopped the only shot on target she faced for Bellevue while Stephens' Cordelia Dallam finished with three saves on the day.

Coach Tom White:

"It's a good response today in a difficult environment. We still need to improve in the attacking third but we will get there. Great goals from Amber O'Reilly and Daisy Ochoa-Rojas with Morgan McIlnay notching two assists as well as carrying the intensity throughout the whole 90. Now it's time to prepare for an exciting encounter on Wednesday."

Up Next:

Bellevue heads west on Wednesday, Sept. 1 where they will meet Hastings College (0-1-0) for a 5:30 p.m. kick-off from Lloyd Wilson Field.
