Baker deals Bruins double OT setback

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. -- Anna Chieu scored 1:13 into the second overtime to give host side Baker University a 1-0 double-overtime victory over the Bellevue University women's soccer team on Wednesday evening at Liston Stadium.

Records:

Bellevue: 5-6-2
Baker: 8-6-1

Recap: Baker 1, Bellevue 0 -- 2OT

Baker had the more numerous of the chances in the opening period, racking up a 10-1 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks, but were unable to break through by the halftime whistle.

After a scoreless ninety minutes, the game proceeded to extra time where, after a scoreless first overtime period, Anna Chieu delivered the victory for the home side with her 102nd minute strike off a pass from Anna Rothfuss.

Sabrina Staufenbiel was again exceptional in goal for the Bruins, stopping a career-high 11 of the 12 shots she faced.

Baker out-shot Bellevue 18-2 on the evening, but the shot totals don't tell the whole story as the vast majority of the Wildcats efforts were from 25-30 yards away and not especially dangerous.

Vanessa Silva saved both attempts she was tasked with stopping for Baker.

Courtney Wallingford had one of the Bruin shots in the first half and Saskia Pepel recorded the other in the final minute of regulation.

Coach Tom White:

"We worked so hard and I felt like we deserved a draw. We got big performances from everybody and were disappointed to lose it. Baker were a good side; we planned well against them and caused them to be frustrated. They could not figure out how to create chances as most of their shots came from 25-30 yards out."

Players of the Match:

Unable to single out an individual performance, Bruin coach Tom White credited the entire squad for a great team performance.
