Wallingford, Weyant lead Bruins past Warriors, 3-0

FOREST CITY, Iowa -- Courtney Wallingford scored her first goal as a Bruin and Emily Weyant scored twice to lead the Bellevue University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Waldorf University on Saturday afternoon at Bolstorff Field.

Courtney Wallingford and Emily Weyant scored less than a minute apart midway through the first half to stake Bellevue to a 2-0 lead.

Wallingford opened the scoring in the 28th minute with an unassisted strike before Weyant tallied another 56 seconds later.

The score remained 2-0 at halftime despite Waldorf holding a slight 6-5 edge in shots.

Weyant effectively put the game out of reach in the 59th minute with her second goal of the contest and ninth of the season. Jayda Noble was credited with the assist.

Sabrina Staufenbiel recorded three saves on the afternoon to earn her second clean sheet of the season.

Sara Rodriguez finished with a pair of saves in the loss.

Waldorf out-shot Bellevue 10-8 for the game and the Bruins gained three corner kicks to the Warriors' two.

"It was a good, professional performance today. Emily Weyant was clinical in front of goal and Courtney Wallingford did a great job playing between the lines. I was impressed with how we managed the game today."

Bellevue travels to La Crosse, Wis. On Friday, Oct. 11 for a 1 p.m. kick-off against Viterbo University from the V-Hawks Soccer Field.
