Trio named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced today that 732 women's soccer student-athletes, including Bellevue University's Laura Cook, (Bellevue, Neb.), Rylan Mahoney (Omaha, Neb.), and Morgan Sheard (Papillion, Neb.) have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

The NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor was the first of all three student-athletes' careers. 

With 12 selections, Antelope Valley (Calif.) led the way as six NAIA member institutions finished with at least 10 honorees. 

Cook, a senior midfielder, is majoring in Business. Mahoney, a junior midfielder, is pursuing a degree in Psychology. Sheard, who is a junior academically, is an Education major.

The Bruins finished the 2018 season with a 10-5-0 overall record, marking BU's 15th-straight season with at least 10 victories. Bellevue lost, 1-0, in the semifinals of the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament to Viterbo University.
