DES MOINES, Iowa -- Sydney Bertman scored in the second minute for the Vikings as the Bellevue University women's soccer team was defeated by Grand View University 2-0 on Friday evening at the James W. Cownie Soccer Complex.

Records:

Bellevue: 0-2-0
Grand View: 2-2-0

Recap:

Grand View scored the opener in the second minute when Haley Waseskuk connected on a through ball down the middle to Sydney Bertman who slotted home her first of the season low and to the opposite side.

The Vikings nursed that lead to the halftime whistle as they did not record another shot in the period. BU out-shot Grand View 9-1 in the opening 45 minutes.

The Vikings doubled their lead with an insurance tally in the 75th minute. Logan Johnson scored her first of the year off a pass from Mariah Deppe to give the host-side a 2-0 edge. Johnson attacked from the left side and beat the keeper low and to the far side of the net.

Sabrina Staufenbiel made a pair of saves for the Bruins in the loss.

Celenka Hommel stopped all 10 shots on goal she faced and the Grand View defense added two additional team saves to preserve the clean sheet.

The Bruins piled up a 16-4 advantage in shots for the game peppering the Viking net with 12 shots on frame while Grand View logged just four shots on the BU net.

Bellevue recorded the only corner kick of the match in the second half.
