LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Two goals early in the second half saw the Bellevue University women's soccer team fall to third-seeded and #22-ranked University of Jamestown 2-0 on Friday evening in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) semifinals at the Grizzly Soccer Complex, hosted by Georgia Gwinnett.
Jamestown improves to 14-4-1 on the year. They will play top-seeded and #20-ranked Georgia Gwinnett College tomorrow for the A.I.I. Tournament Championship with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. GGC advanced past Viterbo on penalty kicks in the other semifinal earlier in the day.
Bellevue falls to 11-5-0 overall and awaits word on whether they've done enough to earn an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The tournament field will be announced at noon on Monday.
Jamestown enjoyed the majority of the possession in the first half but were out-shot by the Bruins 3-2 in the period (2-1 on goal). Corner kicks were even at three apiece in the opening half.
Connie Contreras had a chance to put Jamestown ahead in the 44th minute but her header sailed over the crossbar and the teams remained scoreless into halftime.
The Jimmies broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when UJ sent a cross into the box to Kristin Breaux who played it back across to Kirstyn Aldridge to beat Laurence Rodier for a 1-0 Jamestown lead.
Breaux went on to earn a penalty kick in the 55th minute that Contreras converted to put the Jimmies up by a commanding 2-0 margin.
For the game shots were even at six apiece while BU put five of their attempts on goal to Jamestown's four.
Lauren Sayler stopped all five shots she faced in goal for the Jimmies and Rodier stopped two of the four attempts on target that she faced.
