MADISON, S.D. -- A pair of Bellevue University women's soccer players swept the North Star Athletic Association Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors, announced by the conference office Tuesday. Maiwut Dar was selected as the league's Offensive Player of the Week while teammate Margie Garcia earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
Dar had a dominant week for Bellevue as the purple and gold picked up their first two victories of the season with wins over Dordt and Northwestern. The sophomore forward scored her first three goals in a Bruin uniform over the weekend at the Pizza Ranch Classic. In a 5-1 victory over Dordt, Dar scored a pair of goals on five shots to help BU pick up their first victory of the season. A day later, in a 2-1 win at Northwestern, she tallied five shots including the game-winning goal in the game's 61st minute.
Garcia had a terrific showing on the defensive end for Bellevue in their perfect 2-0-0 week. Against Dordt, she led a defense which limited the Defenders to just nine shots and five corner kicks over 90 minutes. The showing against Northwestern was equally impressive as Garcia led a defense which held the Red Raiders to a total of 12 shots and four corner kicks.
The awards are the first of each players' Bellevue career.
The Bruins are currently 2-2-0 on the season and are off until Sunday when they have an 11 a.m. kick off at Grand View.
