SALINA, Kan. -- Cynthia Chavez's goal in the 92nd minute was the difference in this one as the Bellevue University women's soccer team fell to Kansas Wesleyan 2-1 in overtime in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon.

Kansas Wesleyan stole a late equalizer to force overtime. The extra period lasted just 1:33 before – shortly after a Bruin foul – Chavez found the back of the net for the Golden Goal winner.

It was the first time Bellevue had played an overtime game since Sept.  28, 2014 when they posted a 2-1 win at home over Jamestown.

The two sides played a tight first half which went scoreless into the break. Bellevue had the slight edge in shots at 5-3 and earned six corners against Kansas Wesleyan's one.

Just short of the hour mark, Jordyn Seidel put Bellevue on the board with her first goal of the season. After Maiwut Dar's shot was saved, Bellevue won a corner. Kristin Hanson took the corner kick which led to a loose ball that Seidel collected and put in the back of the net for a 1-0 Bruin lead.

That's where the game remained until the 88th minute when Kansas Wesleyan netted a late equalizer. The Coyotes earned a corner kick and Jen Rogers sent in a cross that found Valerie Ochoa who kicked in the game-tying goal with just 2:03 to play.

Bellevue was out-shot the host Coyotes 13-12 on the game but shots on goal were even at five apiece. BU totaled nine corner kicks in the games compared to Kansas Wesleyan's 10.

Laurence Rodier made three saves in goal for the Bruins while Jane Potter stopped four shots for the Coyotes who win their opener to improve to 1-0-0.

The Bruins (0-2-0) are off until Friday when they take part in the Pizza Ranch Classic. BU plays at Dordt on Friday at 4:15 p.m. and at Northwestern on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
