Two named 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes

BELLEVUE, Neb. - Bellevue University women's soccer players Aubriana Batchelor (Bellevue, Neb.) and Betsy Fischenich (Omaha, Neb.) have each earned distinction as 2014 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes as announced by the NAIA.

Batchelor, a junior central defensive midfielder, was previously named a second team all-MCAC selection and MCAC Scholar Athlete. She appeared in 16 matches this season, making 13 starts and assisting on three goals.

Fischenich, a junior striker, was previous recognized as a first team all-MCAC pick and MCAC Scholar Athlete. She appeared in and started all 18 matches this season, scoring 18 goals and 45 points to rank second on the team while her nine assists were tops on the club.

In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Bellevue finished this season with an overall record of 16-2-0 including going 6-0-0 in MCAC on their way to claiming both MCAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships. The team advanced to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round for the fifth straight season.
