Darkoah leads Bruins to 6-3 win over CSM in MCAC Tournament

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. -- Led by Mercy Darkoah's five goals, the Bellevue University women's soccer team defeated College of Saint Mary 6-3 in the MCAC Tournament semifinals Thursday afternoon.

Darkoah's five goals set a single-match school record and the 10 points tied her school record she set in BU's 17-0 win at Mills College on Sept. 19, 2011.

With the win, the Bruins improved to 9-7-3 while CSM dropped to 13-5-1 overall.

BU advances to the MCAC Tournament championship match against top-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan University at 3:00 p.m. The Eagles defeated Waldorf College 2-0 in the first semifinal.

The Bruins took an early 1-0 lead just 3:22 into the match on Darkoah's shot from 16 yards out before Abby Zach tied the contest at 1-1 in the 14th minute.

Jenica Bloom scored 4:43 into the second half to give BU a 2-1 edge. Lauren Clark was credited the assist.

Darkoah added goals in the 53rd and 59th minutes of action to give the Bruins a 4-1 advantage.

Jordan Meadows scored for the Flames at the 63:21 mark on an unassisted goal.

Darkoah netted her fourth goal of the match on a pass by Betsy Fischenich at 69:47 in the second half.

Zach scored her second goal of the game to pull the Flames within two, 5-3, at 77:51. She leads the MCAC with 23 goals this season.

Darkoah scored the final goal of the match in the 83rd minute to give the Bruins the 6-3 win. She has a team-high 13 goals.

Sammy Sinecio improved to 6-2-0 in goal for the Bruins and recorded six saves. Ashley Wohlers (7-3-1) notched eight saves in the loss for CSM.

BU outshot the Flames, 16-15, and 14 of the Bruins' 16 shots were on goal.

The six goals tied a season-high. The Bruins also netted six goals on Oct. 19 against Central Christian College.
