Bruins advance to title game with win over York

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team scored two goals early in the first half en route to a 2-0 shutout over York College in the semifinals of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament at Heritage Park on the College of St. Mary campus Friday afternoon.

The Bruins (12-6) advanced to the championship game of the tournament and will face the host school, top-seeded College of St. Mary at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Flames shut out Central Christian, 3-0, in the tournament's first semifinal.

Bellevue struck quickly as junior Erika Roberts scored one minute into the game on an assist from Morgan Anderson from seven feet out. It was Roberts' second goal of the season.

Senior Jenna Pendley laced her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 20th minute on a shot from nine feet out after a pass from Roberts that increased the BU advantage to 2-0.

Neither team found the back of the net the remainder of the contest. However, the Bruins controlled most of the action, holding a 29-3 advantage in shots and a 15-1 edge in shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Boone picked up her fifth shutout of the season, recording one save while improving to 11-6 overall. York's Jordan Veness recorded 13 saves in the loss.
