Bruins nip BCU on Ferguson's overtime goal

OMAHA, Neb. -- Senior Whitney Ferguson's goal with just 38 seconds remaining in overtime gave the Bellevue University women's soccer team a dramatic 2-1 victory over Briar Cliff University Wednesday night at Tranquility Park.

With the win, Bellevue improved to 4-1 on the season while Briar Cliff fell to 1-2.

Ferguson scored on a cross in the box from Meredith Shuman who received a pass from Aracelli Zamarripa which found Ferguson open in front of the net.

The Chargers' Liz Walters scored the first goal of the game on a shot in the box at the 19:32 mark. Lisa Maxey was credited with the assist.

Paige Wischman tied the game up with just 19 seconds remaining before halftime after a pass from the top of the box by Zamarripa.

The Bruins controlled the ball for the entire game, holding a 28-2 advantage in shots and a 13-2 edge in shots on goal.

Freshman Sarah Boone recorded the win after replacing Shalynn Durham in the 26th minute of the game.

The Chargers' Courtney Bahney tallied 11 saves in the loss.

The Bruins return to action on Sunday, Sept. 13, when they travel to Mitchell, S.D. for a 2 p.m. game against Dakota Wesleyan.
