Carroll hands Bruins first loss of the season

HELENA, Mont. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season as Carroll College scored three early goals en route to a 4-1 victory over the Bruins Friday afternoon at the Carroll College Classic.

Bellevue fell to 2-1 on the season while Carroll improved to 3-0 overall.

The Fighting Saints got goals in the first 21 minutes of the game from Molly Clark, Lauren Cacopardo and Megan O'Connell.

The Bruins avoided the shutout when Meredith Shuman scored unassisted with less than nine minutes remaining in the game. Carroll added an insurance goal less than two minutes later when Kelsey Dye scored on a pass from O'Connell.

Bellevue managed only three shots the entire match compared to 17 for the Fighting Saints.

The Bruins will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Rocky Mountain College at 1 p.m. in Helena.
