BU opens season with 4-0 shutout over Tigers

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team scored three second-half goals to pull away for a 4-0 season-opening shutout over Iowa Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at Tranquility Park. Four different Bruins scored in the win.

Freshman Paige Wischmann scored the first goal of the season just 2:47 into the game on a header off a crossing pass from the left wing by senior Anastasia Dascalos.

The Bruins added to their lead with two quick goals in the second half. Junior Krystyn Yancone scored unassisted from the right wing at 55:37. Just over two minutes later, senior Jenna Pendley scored off a cross in the box from Morgan Anderson at 58:07 to give Bellevue a 3-0 advantage.

Junior Elise Lane found the back of the net on a shot in the box at 84:30 to complete the game's scoring. Freshman Jessica Chavez and sophomore Meredith Shuman were both credited with the assist.

Freshman Sarah Boone got the shutout win, recording one save as the Bruins controlled the ball throughout the game.

Bellevue outshot Iowa Wesleyan 17-5 and held a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Bruins will return to Tranquility Park for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, Aug. 30 against Mount Mercy.
