Bruins in 25th place after opening day at NAIA Nationals

SILVIS, Ill. -- The Bellevue women's golf team is currently in 25th place after the opening day of action at the 72-hole NAIA Women's Golf National Championship being played at the 6,059-yard, par-72 TPC at Deere Run. 

The Bruins shot a team score of 56-over par 344. British Columbia leads the 30-team field after registering a 17-over team score of 305. The University of Cumberlands is three strokes back at 20-over par. 

Maria Pinedo was the top BU golfer on the day, firing a 12-over 84 to put her in a tie for 86th place in the 156-player field. She recorded back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes and had three birdies on the day. 

Megan Harty is tied for 100th place after shooting a 13-over par 85. Her opening round was highlighted with a pair of birdies and eight pars. 

Ilysia Ibnu carded a 14-over par 86 and is tied for 106th place. Ibnu had eight pars in Tuesday's round.

Chloe Blandinieres recorded a 17-over par 89 and is tied for 118th place. Her round was sparked by a birdie and seven pars. 

Rounding out the scoring for the Bruins was Aaricia Noel-Traissac who collected a 20-over 92 and is tied for 136th place. She parred the final four holes on the back nine. 

Milligan's Kate Castle and Kansas Welseyan's Abby Donovan share the individual lead at 2-over par. 

The Bruins will tee off at 8 a.m. in Wednesday's second round. 

The top 17 teams and the top 40 individuals will make the cut, advancing to the third and fourth rounds.
