Bruins open season by winning Mount Marty Invitational

YANKTON, S.D. -- Four of the top five individual spots belonged to Bruin golfers as the Bellevue University women's golf team opened the 2023 season by winning the team title at the Mount Marty Invitational.

The Bruins began the day with a 3-stroke lead over Morningside after shooting 322 (+34) on Thursday.

Bellevue posted a tournament-best round of 312 (+24) on Friday to secure a 14-stroke victory over the Mustangs.

Topping the final standings with a 58-over 634 as a team, BU topped the medal stand. Morningside (648, +72), Mount Marty (669, +93), Dakota Wesleyan (679, +103), and College of St. Mary along with Northwestern (682, +106) rounded out the top five.

Morningside's Sofia Castelan took home individual medalist honors with a 7-over 151, edging out Maria Pinedo who shot 152 (+8) for the tournament. Mount Marty's Kelsey Heath finished third (153, +9) with Bruin teammates Ilysia Ibnu (158, +14) and Aaricia Noel-Traissac (162, +18) with Chloe Blandinieres (162, +18) rounding out the top five individuals.

Megan Harty finished tied for 16th with a two-day total of 24-over 168.

Bellevue next competes at the Swan Memorial in Broomfield, Colo. to be played at The Broadlands Golf Course.
