
BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team holds a commanding 35-stroke lead after the opening round of play at the North Star Athletic Association Championships being played at the 5,783-yard, par-72 Platteview Golf Club.
The Bruins hold three of the top four spots, including the top two, in the 30-player field.
Bellevue shot a team score of 50-over 338 in the cold and blustery conditions. Waldorf is currently in second place after firing an opening-round 373. Viterbo is in third at 380. Valley City State (389), Dickinson State (399), and Dakota State (534) round out the scoring in the six-team 36-hole championship.
Sophomore Maria Pinedo leads all players after carding a 6-over 78 on the day. Her consistent round was fueled by 12 pars.
Senior Tylah Saifoloi is in second place after shooting a 10-over 82. She led all players with three birdies in her opening round.
Waldorf's Amanda Karvala is currently in third at 11-over par. Her round was sparked by an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole.
Bellevue's Ilysia Ibnu and Dickinson State's Elly LeBlanc are tied for fourth at 15-over par.
Freshman Aaricia Noel-Traissac is in seventh place at 19-over par and Megan Harty is currently in eighth at 21-over.
The top seven individuals will earn first-team all-conference honors and will be honored tomorrow following the second round.
Tuesday's final round will being with an 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
