OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla -- Senior Tylah Saifoloi shot an even-par 71 and is currently tied for first place after the opening round of play at the nine-team Susie Maxwell Berning Classic being played at the 5,833-yard, par-71 Lincoln Park Golf Course - West Course.
The Bruins are currently in third place with a team score of 12-over par 296. Host Oklahoma City University is in first place at 6-over par (290). Texas Wesleyan is three shots back at 9-over par.
Saifoloi is tied for first in the 54-player field with Oklahoma City's MaKayla Tyrell. Her round of even-par 71 marked the best 18-hole round of Saifoloi's four-year Bruin career.
Saifoloi's consistent round produced two birdies, 14 pars, and two bogeys.
Sophomore Ilysia Ibnu fired her best round of the year with a 3-over 74, putting her in a tie for 11th place. Ibnu's round was sparked by three birdies, including back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth holes.
Sophomore Maria Pinedo carded a 4-over 74 and is in a tie for 16th place. Pinedo had one birdie and 12 pars in her round.
Sophomore Megan Harty shot a 5-over 76 and is tied for 19th place. She birdied the par-4 sixth hole and also had 11 pars on the day.
Rounding out the day for the Bruins was Aaricia Noel-Traissac, who registered a 13-over 84, putting her in 41st place. She birdied the par-4 14th hole.
Tuesday's final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
