Pinedo claims Nebraska Intercollegiate Crown

NORFOLK, Neb. -- Maria Pinedo rallied from five strokes back, shooting a second round-best 78, to win the 2022 Nebraska Intercollegiate played at the Norfolk Country Club as all three Bellevue University women's golfers placed in the top 10 of the event.

After posting an 82 in Friday's opening round at the 5,961-yard, par 72, Pinedo followed up with a 6-over 78 on Saturday. Highlighting her third round was her birdie on the par 3 seventh hole as she posted a one-stroke victory over a pair of Wayne State golfers, Abby Broderson and Jazmine Taylor.

Megan Harty, BU's leader after Friday, shot an 87 on Saturday to finish tied for fifth place with a 24-over 168.

Tylah Saifoloi, slipped six strokes on Saturday to shoot an 89 en route to a 36-hole total of 172 (+28) to finish in 10th place.

Wayne State took home the team title with a score of 653, finishing 47 strokes ahead of second place Nebraska-Kearney. Concordia (722), Hastings (726), and College of St. Mary (731) were all tightly bunched in third-fifth while Doane (839) rounded out the six-team field.

Bellevue next competes on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 10-11 at the Carter County Collegiate to be played at Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club in Ardmore, Okla.
