Kung's big round helps BU to third-place finish at Sydney Cox Invite

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Freshman Jirattiphon (Kung) Phongthanachalitkun fired a 1-under par 71 on Tuesday to help lead the Bellevue University women's golf team to a third-place finish in the 13-team Sydney Cox Invitational being played at the 6,005-yard, par 72 Lincoln Park Golf Club (West Course).

The tournament featured five ranked teams from across the nation. 

Phongthanachalitkun's round was highlighted by four birdies and 11 pars to give her a seventh-place finish in the 70-player field. She finished the tournament at 3-over par. 

Host school Oklahoma City University captured the team title, finishing at 3-over after posting the tournament's top team round of 1-under (287).  

Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) University was 16 strokes back at 19-over par with team rounds of 298 and 297 (595). 

The Bruins shot a team score of 15-over par 303 to finish the tournament at 31-over par with team rounds of 304 and 303 (607). As a team, the Bruins recorded 12 birdies on the day. 

Madison Brooks finished in a tie for 11th place after carding a four-over 76 to finish the tournament at 6-over par. 

Allison Temple shot an 8-over 80 to finish in a tie for 24th place at 12-over par. 

Tylah Saifoloi and Mikayla King both ended the tournament in a tie for 28th place at 13-over.

Oklahoma City's Lauryn Pritchard and Embry-Riddle's Jessica Williams both tied for first in regulation, ending the tournament at 6-under par. Williams won the individual crown with a par on the fourth playoff hole.  

The tournament concludes the Bruins' fall season. Bellevue will compete again beginning next spring.
