Freshmen help guide BU to 5th-place finish at Northwest Iowa Invite

Le MARS, Iowa -- Paced by freshmen Mikayla King and Tylah Saifoloi, the Bellevue University women's golf team shot the second-lowest team score on the day to finish fifth overall in the 10-team Northwest Iowa National Invitational Tournament being played at the par-72, 5963-yard Willow Creek Golf Club.

With three golfers finishing in the 70's, the Bruins fired a team total of 308 on Tuesday to finish with a 962 (320-334-308) 54-hole team score. Texas Wesleyan shot the top team score on the day with a 293, winning the team title with an overall total of 902 (313-296-293). William Penn was 13 strokes back at 915, while Morningside placed third at 916. 

Saifoloi, competing in her first collegiate round, shot a 2-over 74, while King carded a 3-over 75. King finished in a tie for ninth overall, making the all-tournament team with a 14-over par total of 230 (79-76-75). Allison Temple and Madison Brooks both finished in a tie for 14th-place at 17-over par. Autumn Fateley placed 41st overall after recording an 84 on the day. 

Grand View's Karli Kerrigan won the individual title, finishing at 1-under par for the tournament, topping the 50-player field.  

The Bruins will next compete on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
