Bruins in 11th after opening round at NAIA Fall Preview

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Allison Temple shot an 8-over 80 Monday and the Bellevue University women's golf team sits in 11th place after one round of play at the NAIA Championship Fall Preview.

The Course:

The NAIA Fall Preview is being played at the 6,050-yard, par-72 Lincoln Park Golf Club from the West Course.

The Field:

Of the 11 NAIA schools competing eight are ranked in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, including three in the top five; No. 2 SCAD Savannah, No. 3 Dalton State, and No. 5 William Carey. Also ranked are Oklahoma City (No. 7), Loyola-New Orleans (No. 8), William Penn (No. 9), Texas Wesleyan (No. 17), and USC Beaufort (No. 20).

Bellevue, Grand View, and St. Thomas (Texas) are all currently unranked; however, both Bellevue and Grand View received votes in the Preseason Poll.

Among the junior college participants Iowa Western and McLennan are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the most recent NJCAA Division I Rankings.

Team Recap:

The Bruins shot a team score of 332, putting them in 11th place in the 16-team field. SCAD-Savannah was the lone team to shoot under 300, finishing with a team score of 11-over par 299. Five teams are within 10 strokes of the lead, including Texas Wesleyan (302), South Carolina-Beaufort (303), William Carey (307), Dalton State (309) and Loyola-New Orleans (309).   

Individual Recap:

Temple's opening round 80 put her in a tie for 29th in the 82-player field. Her round included one birdie and nine pars. Faustina Peve is in a tie for 42nd after firing an 81 Monday, with one birdie and eight pars. 

Kim Moore carded an opening-round 85 and is tied for 58th. Her round featured two birdies and six pars. Madison Brooks shot a 14-over 86 and is tied for 61st place.

There is a three-way tie for first place in the individual standings at 1-under par between SCAD Savannah's Alessia Avanzo, William Carey's Aleesha Smith, and Dalton State's Isabel Rijos.

The Bruins wrap up play at the NAIA Championship Fall Preview tomorrow with the Tuesday's second round scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.

Notes:

  • This is BU's third time competing at the NAIA Fall Preview (2012, 2014).
  • Bellevue's best finish at the event came when they placed fourth (of 20 teams) in 2012. The Bruins tied for sixth (of 16 teams) during the 2014 event.
