VALLEY, Neb. -- Following today's opening round the Bellevue University women's golf team is in second place, one shot off the lead, in the nine-team field at the BU Fall Invite being played at The Pines Country Club.

Morningside College is the overall tournament lead with a team score of 308, one stroke ahead of the second place Bruins. Truman State University (312) and William Penn University (313) are neck and neck for third and fourth place, respectively, with Iowa Western Community College rounding out the top five with a team score of 320.

Grand View University (330), Black Hills State University (340), Dakota Wesleyan University (346), and Southwestern College (352) complete the field in the annual event, hosted by the Bruins.

Cassidy Evreniadis, of Iowa Western, is the individual clubhouse leader after posting an even-par 72 in the first round. Maria Zorrilla (Morningside) and Maria Mantilla (Grand View) are tied for second place one shot off the pace.

Faustina Peve posted the Bruins' best round of the afternoon (+2, 74) while teammate Kim Moore (+4, 76) is just two strokes behind her. The duo currently rests in a tie for fourth and sixth, respectively.

Bellevue's Morgan Hazzard (+7, 79) and Madison Brooks (+8, 80) are also among the tournament's top 20 in a tie for 15th and 17th. Allison Temple (t-33, +15, 87, Bri Stagge (t-37, +16, 88) and Shelby Schneider (t-44, +21, 93) round out the lineup of BU golfers.

The tournament wraps up tomorrow morning.
