Bruins jump three spots in final round of first spring tournament

POTTSBORO, Texas -- The Bellevue University women's golf team improved their standing by three places on Tuesday to finish in a tie for ninth place at the 16-team Texas A&M-Commerce Invite, their first tournament of the spring season.

The tournament was held at the par-72 Tanglewood Resort. St. Mary's University (Texas) claimed the overall team title with a four-stroke victory over second place Newman. Host school Texas A&M-Commerce finished in seventh place.

Newman's Imkeleen Meyer took the individual title with a four-stroke victory, finishing at 11-over par at the event.

Faustina Peve was Bellevue's top finisher in both the round and overall. She fired a 79 on Tuesday to finish at 167 and tie for 11th place in the 85-golfer field.

Wendy Monfort also earned a top-20 finish, tied for 19th, after recording a second round 85 to end the tournament at 169.

BU first round leader Ivane Helias carded a 90 in round two to finish the tournament at 173. Morgan Hazzard (93, 197) and Bri Stagge (106, 212) complete the Bruin team for the event.

The Bruins return to the links on Saturday-Sunday, March 25-26 when they compete at the UNK Invite in Kearney, Neb.
