
POTTSBORO, Texas -- The Bellevue University women's golf team sits in 12th place after the first round of competition at the 16-team Texas A&M-Commerce Invite being held at the par-72 Tanglewood Resort.
The teams battled 30 mph winds with gusts of up to 50 mph for most of the day.
The Bruins shot a team total of 71-over 359. Newman University and St. Mary's (Texas) University are currently tied for the team lead at 39-over, 327.
Ivane Helias was the top BU golfer on the day, finishing with an 11-over par 83, putting her in a tie for 10th place in the 85-player field. Wendy Monfort fired a 12-over 84 and is tied for 13th. Faustina Peve is in a tie for 40th after carding an opening round 16-over par 88.
Newman's Imkeleen Meyer is the individual tournament leader at 4-over par (76).
The tournament will conclude on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
