OMAHA, Neb. -- Led by Wendy Monfort, the Bellevue University women's golf team is in ninth place after the first round of the Creighton Classic being played at the 5,965-yard, par-72 Oak Hills Country Club Monday.
The Bruins shot a team score of 333 and are 22 strokes off the lead of first place Western Illinois University. Bellevue is the lone NAIA squad in the nine-team field with all other participants NCAA Division I schools.
Monfort shot a 9-over par 81 in the opening round and is currently tied for 24th-place in the individual standings.
Hannah Maschong fired an opening-round 82 and is tied for 29th place. Faustina Peve recorded an 83, good for a tie for 32nd place. Ivane Helias rounded out BU's scoring, finishing with an 87, putting her in a tie for 45th place.
North Dakota State's Natalie Roth leads the 60-player field after carding an opening-round even-par score of 72.
The tournament will conclude with Tuesday's second round, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
