
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Led by sophomore Wendy Monfort, the Bellevue University women's golf team is currently in first place after the first round of the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bear Classic played Monday at the 5,902-yard, par-72 Hillcrest Golf Club.
The Bruins, who are the only NAIA squad in the eight-team field, lead by one stroke over second-place University of Central Missouri. Bellevue carded a first round team total of 42-over par 330. The other seven teams in the field all are NCAA Division II squads.
Monfort is tied for second in the overall standings after firing a 7-over par 79 on the day. Hannah Maschong and Faustina Peve are both tied for 12th after each shot 11-over par 83 in the first round. Ivane Helias rounded out the Bruins' scoring with an opening-round 85, which puts her in a tie for 18th in the 48-player field.
Concordia-St. Paul's Savannah Stone has the individual lead after recording a 5-over par 77.
The 36-hole tournament will conclude on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
