Women’s Golf wins NSAA Team Championship, Monfort wins individual title

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team owned an 86-stroke lead entering the final round of play and continued to display their dominance as they bested the field by 25 strokes in the North Star Athletic Association's fourth round to win their first NSAA title.

For the Bruins, the championship is their fifth-straight conference title.

Wendy Monfort began the day tied with teammate Natalia Soria for the tournament lead and shot a 74 to Soria's 78 to claim the individual title with a 72-hole score of 307. Karissa Moreland and Maria Saavedra completed the BU sweep of the top four spots with scores of 81 and 74 on the day to finish at 316 and 317 for the tournament.

Ivane Helias, who did not compete in the fall portion of the tournament, carded a fourth round 82 to finish with a 36-hole score of 163.

Monfort was named Golfer of the Year and earned First Team all-NSAA accolades. Soria, Moreland, and Saavedra were all named First Team all-NSAA for their performances. Shelly Liddick was named the NSAA Coach of the Year. 

Next up for the Bruins is the NAIA National Championship from May 17-20 at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in Savannah, Ga.
