BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior Maria Saavedra (Mexico City, Mexico) has been named the North Star Athletic Association's Women's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the NSAA.
After battling through strong sustained winds and incredible gusts Saavedra finished the first round of the Bellevue University Fall Invitational just two strokes off the pace. She bounced back in the second round by firing a tournament and season-best 74 (+1) to claim a narrow, one stroke victory over teammate Karissa Moreland.
In winning the tournament's individual title Saavedra helped Bellevue win their second tournament as a team. They defeated Iowa Western Community College by 35 strokes.
Bellevue is back on the links on Monday, Oct. 19 when they compete at the Creighton Fall Classic at the Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, Neb.
