
OGLESBY, Ill. -- Freshman Wendy Monfort fired a first round 78, good for a tie for fourth overall, to lead the Bellevue University women's golf team to a third place standing after the first round of the Deer Park Classic.
Monfort was one of a pair of Bruin golfers to post a top 10 opening round. Karissa Moreland, in a tie for ninth place, shot 79 and senior Maria Saavedra carded an 80 to help BU to a team score of 322 through one round of play. Senior Natalia Soria checked in with a first round 85.
Cardinal Stritch own the team lead with a score of 314, two strokes ahead of Campbellsville. Bellevue, Marian (327), and Quincy (329) round out the top five in the 15-team field.
Play resumes tomorrow with the final round of the Deer Park Classic.
