Bruins lead after first day at National Tournament

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Led by junior Charlene Dubois, the Bellevue University women's golf team is currently in first place after the first day of competition at the 27-team NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at the Savannah Quarters Country Club. 

The Bruins shot a team score of 12-over par 300 and lead second-place British Columbia by one stroke. 

Due to lightning in the area, the first round of play at the tournament was suspended with approximately 10 of the afternoon pairings left on the course. The first round will resume at 7:15 a.m. tomorrow, with second round pairings remaining unchanged.

Charlene Dubois shot an even-par 72, putting her in a tie for second place. Karissa Moreland fired a 2-over par 74 and is tied for eighth place. Natalia Soria carded a 4-over par 76, and is tied for 15th place. Renee Santoyo is tied for 42nd place after shooting an 6-over par 78. Maria Saavedra rounded out the Bruin scoring with an 85. 

Houston-Victoria's Heather Shake is currently 1-under for the tournament after 12 holes. 

The 72-hole tournament will run through Friday, May 15.
