MOLINE, Ill. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team leads the field after the first round of the TPC Deere Run Invitational, hosted by William Penn University. The Bruins shot a first round 308 and own a five stroke lead over the host Statesmen at the highly challenging 5,852 yard course.

The course, noted for its difficulty and length, hosts the John Deere Classic, a PGA Tournament that runs from July 9-12 and shells out a purse worth $4.7 million.

Renee Santoyo and Maria Saavedra both shot a first round 4-over, 76 and sit a single stroke back of the tournament lead. Teammates Natalia Soria and Charlene Dubois sit just two strokes back with first round scores of 78 to tie for fifth in the 64-player field. Karissa Moreland shot an 81 and sits in a tie for eighth overall.

The Bruins wrap up play with the final round of the TPC Deere Run tomorrow morning.
