SAVANNAH, Ga. - Junior Renee Santoyo (Guadalupe, Mexico) shot a team-best 76 and the Bellevue University women's golf team currently rests in a tie for seventh place after the first round at the 2014 NAIA National Championship Preview being held at the Savannah Quarters Golf Club.

Santoyo's 76 was good enough for a first round 4-over at the challenging 6010 yard, par 72 course as she sits in a tied for 12th place in the field of 89 golfers.

Juniors Karissa Moreland (North Platte, Neb.), Charlene Dubois (Salbris), and Maria Saavedra (Mexico City, Mexico) each shot a 10-over 82 and are in a tie for 38th place, respectively. Junior Natalia Soria (La Paz, Bolivia) is currently one shot off that grouping after posting a first round 83.

Northwood currently holds the overall team lead with a first round score of 296, seven strokes ahead of second place SCAD Savannah (303). Wayland Baptist is tied in third place with Indiana East and Embry-Riddle of Florida with scores of 314 to round out the top five. Bellevue, with a score of 322, currently sits in a tie for seventh place with Southeastern, seven shots behind sixth-place Dalton State (315).

The Bruins will wrap up the tournament and fall season tomorrow morning with the second, and final, round of the NAIA National Championship Preview.
