LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team is tied for seventh after the first round of play at the NAIA Women's Golf Championships on Tuesday at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club.
Oklahoma City University leads the 27-team field with a first round score of 14-over par 302. Bellevue is 12 shots off the pace after recording an opening-round team score of 314.
Renee Santoyo paced the Bruins with a 3-over par 75 and is currently tied for 11th out of 144 golfers in the 72-hole event.
Bria LaFoca was the lone golfer to shoot under par on the day, firing a 1-under 71 to lead the tournament field.
Natalia Soria is tied for 20th after shooting a 4-over 76. Maria Saavedra registered a 9-over 81 and is tied for 53rd. Charlene Dubois carded a 10-over 82 and is tied for 61st. Karissa Moreland rounded out the Bruin scoring, finishing with an 83, putting her in a tie for 66th place.
The Bruins will tee off in Wednesday's second round beginning at 9:10 a.m.
The 20th annual event is a four-day tournament with the final round scheduled for Friday, May 23. The top 17 teams and 40 individuals make the final cut for Friday's fourth round.
