Bruins in first place after opening round of BU Fall Invite

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Led by Maria Saavedra and Renee Santoyo, the Bellevue University women's golf team leads the seven-team tournament by nine strokes after the first round of competition at the Bellevue Fall Invitational at Eagle Hills Golf Course on Monday.

Saavedra and Santoyo are in first and second place, recording scores of 74 and 79, respectively.

Christina VonRiesen also tallied a top-five finish with a first round score of 81 to place her in fourth.

Other Bruin golfers included zzy Hernandez (88), Taylor Byers (89) and Jayme Harmelink (90).

Bellevue concluded the day with a team total of 322. Iowa Western Community College is second with a score of 331.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow (Sept. 11) with an 8:00 a.m. start.
