Bruins in third after 1st day at Southwestern Christian Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Iowa -- Led by Maria Saavedra and Christina VonRiesen,  the Bellevue University women's golf team sits in third place after the first day of competition in the season-opening Southwestern Christian University Fall Classic being played at Lake Hefner Golf Course. 

The Bruins shot a first round team total of 307, nine shots off the pace of tournament leader Southern Nazarene University's 298. Seminole State Community College is in second at 301. 

Saavedra and VonRiesen both recorded 2-over par scores of 74. The duo is currently tied for fourth in the individual standings. Renee Santoyo is just behind them with a 3-over 75. She is in seventh place individually. 

Other Bruin scores included Izzy Hernandez with an 84 (T17) and Jayme Harmelink with an 86 (T21). 

Southern Nazarene's Jordan Leibold leads the field with a 5-under par first round score of 67.
