BU evens conference record with 73-62 win over Waldorf

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Gabby Moore scored 21 points to lead the Bellevue University women's basketball team to a 73-62 victory over visiting Waldorf University Friday night in North Star Athletic Association action at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. 

With the win, the Bruins improved to 9-10 on the season and 2-2 in the NSAA. Waldorf dropped to 5-11 overall and 0-3 in league play. 

Moore went 7-of-17 from the field and hit four 3-pointers while adding six rebounds and three assists. 

Delaney VanBlaricon hit 5-of-8 from long range, finishing with 15 points. Kaylee Denker was the third Bruin in double figures, registering 14 points along with five boards and three assists. 

Brooke Dial paced the Warriors with 24 points and seven rebounds. Edosa Ogbemudia added 10 points and eight boards.  

Behind Dial's eight points, the Warriors hit six of their first eight shots as WU established a 16-11 lead in the first eight minutes of the contest. The Bruins closed the first quarter on a 4-0 run to narrow the lead to 16-15 after the opening 10 minutes of play. 

Five straight points by Denker sparked a 10-2 run to open the second quarter as BU gained a 25-18 advantage. Two straight 3-pointers by VanBlaricon and another by Moore extended the margin to 12 points at 34-22 with 3:47 left before the intermission.   

A 3-point play by Denker helped the Bruins maintain a 41-29 edge at the halftime break. 

Denker and Moore paced the Bruin offense with 12 points each in the opening half. Van Blaricon added nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from long range. 

Dial led the Warriors with 11 first-half points. 

An 8-3 spurt to open the third frame pushed the Bruin advantage to 17 points at 49-32. The two teams traded buckets for the remainder of the third as BU took a 63-45 lead heading into the final stanza. Moore scored nine third-quarter points. 

The Warriors scored seven straight points to open the fourth quarter, slicing the lead to 11 points at 63-52 with 5:39 left in the contest, holding the Bruins scoreless for the first five minutes of the final frame. 

A deep 3-pointer by Dial followed by a steal and a layup by Dial cut the lead to single digits at 68-60 at the 2:35 mark. 

Van Blaricon answered with her fifth 3-pointer of the game 25 seconds later, and the Warriors never got closer than nine points the rest of the contest as BU earned the 73-62 victory.  

The Bruins will host Viterbo University tomorrow (Jan. 20) in a 3 p.m. NSAA contest at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
